Dear Sir,

I would like to inform you of The McCarthy Clan Gathering that is taking place in County Kerry, Ireland over a three day period in May of this year.

The Gathering 2013 is a year-long celebration of everything that’s unique and great about Ireland and its people. Kerry is celebrating The Gathering with enthusiasm and has over 200 events ranging from activity, arts crafts, cultural, food, music and dance, nature and sports events; clam, family, parish and school reunions as well as a range of local community, nation and international festivals for you to experience and enjoy.

County Kerry has been welcoming visitors for generations, Irish tourism was born in County Kerry and it remains the most popular destination for overseas visitors. In Kerry visitors can celebrate in style while experiencing all the other outdoor amenities that the county has to offer: spectacular tours of Killarney, Dingle and the Ring of Kerry: the rich Christian heritage of Skellig Michael, Dingle Peninsula and North Kerry. World class golf on parkland and links courses, outdoor activities, horse racing, angling and water sports: the best of traditional Irish culture, music and dance, crafts and traditions: superb accommodation and conference facilities, and food and evening entertainment in our towns and villages.

We are interested in informing all persons with the surname of McCarthy, of the following gathering, which takes place in May.

McCarthy Clan Gathering

There is a gathering of the McCarthy’s of Iveragh and Kerry in a festival on 10th, 11th and 12th May 2013. It will feature the genealogy and history from medieval to modern times of the McCarthy family. UCC archaeologist John Sheehan will give a talk on the McCarthy Castles at Ballinskelligs, Ballycarbery (Caherciveen) and Lough Curran (Waterville) and will lead a field trip to the Ballinskelligs and Ballycarbery Castles. A historical talk will include the history of the Medieval McCarthy Princes. It is hoped also to arrange a talk on the McCarthy (y-DNA) Surname Study. The Kerry Genealogy Road Show will attend and there will also be a full entertainment programme. The festival will provide an enjoyable experience for participants and help to raise the awareness of the important role of the MacCarthys in the history of Iveragh, Kerry and Ireland. It will be of interest to all McCarthys and everyone interested in the history and the great families of Iveragh. A Cèad Mìle Fàilte will await the McCarthy diaspora.
